Profile
Sreejit Datta is a writer, translator and singer. He divides his time between Kolkata and Shantiniketan, where he is working as a PhD scholar (Junior Research Fellow) at the Centre for Comparative Literature in Visva-Bharati, the university established by Rabindranath Tagore. He writes songs, poetry, short fiction and plays in Bangla and English. He is currently working on a body of 19 th century Bangla religious lyrics known as Brahmasangeet as the greater part of his PhD thesis. His training is in Hindustani music, and he is an acclaimed vocalist performing across multiple Indian and non-Indian genres. Sreejit’s areas of interest include Musicology, Ethnomusicology, Indian Philosophies, Comparative Literature, Sanskrit Studies, African
Literatures and Cultures, Translation Theory, among others. He is actively involved in the building of an Indic Narrative of history, polity, aesthetic theory and sciences, known as the Swadeshi Indology Movement. He can be reached at sreejit.datta@gmail.com
